clay and fibers are situated in culture and history as functional and expressive objects that, in working with them, connect to a lineage of makers. Both media to me also connote bodies– in fiber, fabrics and woven structures move like skin, and it moves against the skin as clothes, while clay structures mirror bones. 

sea shells and coral reefs. sea shells are the product of creatures who create a home (the shell) through movement, and then die and leave behind an echo of themselves as skeletal remains.
